the cat came back

We got a call after midnight last night that some late night walkers found our cat.  She was 9 houses down and thankfully the nice couple saw the sign we posted and called us.

We can't believe our 16 year old, declawed cat survived outside for 4 nights in our new neighborhood.  The greenbelt has coyotes, giant owls, wild hogs, snakes and other critters, but somehow she survived.  She is filthy and skinny, but home and happy.

our Angel

16 years ago on a rainy day, a tiny white kitten with bright blue eyes showed up to Eric's back door.  She loved to fetch crumpled up yellow paper during Eric's college days, got skinny in the summer and fat in the winter, bit people who tried to pet her when she didn't want them to, sucked her thumb while she purred, loved Eric the most and was the prettiest cat ever.

We haven't seen our kitty since Monday and are hoping she will come back home to us!  We miss our Angel.

Where's Lauren now?

Tonight when I went to check on the kids before going to bed, I found Lauren's bed empty once again.

I checked the boys' room, couches, bathrooms and our room before waking Eric up to help in the search.  Panic once again started to rise up in me.

I found her fast asleep under Austin's bed.  I had glanced there earlier, but dismissed the spot since the sliding storage drawer takes up most of the room.

I'm not sure what she was thinking, but she had her stuffed animal bird and a flashlight in her hiding spot with her.  This girl definitely keeps us on our toes!

Where's Lauren?

Wednesday night Eric had an 11 o'clock soccer game, so I went to bed around 10.  When he came home around 12:30, he went to check on the kids before joining me in bed.  He covered up the boys and went to do the same for Lauren.  Much to his surprise, Lauren was not in her bed.  He looked in the bathroom and she wasn't there.  That's when he woke me up to ask if she was in bed with me.  We began to panic and ran from room to room looking for her.

We finally found her in our room on Eric's side of the bed sleeping like this!

We are guessing she went to talk to Eric and when he wasn't there, she fell asleep in this crazy position!  Silly girl!

quick tour

We have been working hard decorating our house.  We still need to paint, hang mirrors, make new pillows and get some rugs.  It's coming together and we are loving it.

We are going to paint the credenza at the front door a muted aqua color and leave the top wood.  I hope we can pull it off!  I feel like all I do is move decorations around from one room to another.  Sooner or later, I'll find where I want things.  I still have no idea what to put in the art niches.  Any suggestions?

We finished Lauren's room first.  I put fabrics from her quilt in embroidery hoops and I love how it turned out.  She likes it too. :)  I love that she sleeps in the bed Nanny passed on to her and that she plays in my old doll house.

I used all my favorites Lauren's favorite fabrics in the hoops.

The boys share a room and have an adjoining playroom.  They spend 90% of their time in the playroom right now.

The kitchen is coming together.  I eventually want to change the grape patina tiles out and add something a little more modern and light.

My plants love it here and so do we!

Home sweet home

We are all settled in and loving our new house.  I finally unpacked my camera charger, so I can blog!  We moved in a week and a half ago and have most boxes unpacked.  We still have lots of organizing to do before we start painting.

We are so thankful for our friends and family's help moving.  Our parents, Scott, Jared, Hayden, Markus, Tony and Trent were awesome and we couldn't have done it without them.  Special thanks to Samantha and Trent for letting us take over their garage and keeping our plants alive while we were on vacation.

We are loving all the wildlife in the greenbelt behind our house.  My coffee tastes even better on the covered back porch in the morning.

We've been working hard in the backyard too.  The back section of the yard had dead grass and lots of dirt, so we laid a pallet of sod and finished a new flowerbed.  It's coming together and we couldn't be happier here. More pictures to come soon!
