Lauren's 2nd Birthday

Today we celebrated Lauren's 2nd birthday!  Both sets of grandparents came down to celebrate her big day with us.

If you ask her how old she is, she says "TWO!".   Look how much she has grown since last year.  She speaks so well now and she is so much fun.

After we ate cupcakes, Lauren opened her presents.

Even the boys loved playing with her pots and pans.

We got Lauren a kitchen and she loves it!  She was so happy when she walked in her room and saw it.

Her favorite present of all is the phone on her kitchen.  She walked around the house jabbering and laughing.  It was so cute!  I wonder where she gets that?

Happy Birthday Lauren!  You are such a big girl and we love you so much!

the patchwork lollipop

I'm happy to say that my Etsy store is doing well!   I just sold my 100th item!  When I first started it, I planned to sell handmade items and a little fabric.  After realizing that I enjoy buying and selling fabric a lot more than waiting on my handmade things to sell, I now only sell fabric. I love that I can make a little extra money doing what I enjoy, while growing my own fabric stash too. It's a win, win.

I love getting fabric in the mail, cutting it and getting it all folded and ready to sell.  I would never have guessed I would love doing this 6 years ago when I worked for DFS!

My talented friend Ellen wrote my profile bio for me.

My store is building up inventory and I have more on the way.

When I decided I needed a new store logo, Eric designed this logo for me for Valentine's Day.  I love it and think he did a great job. We have more ideas on how to improve it and plan to have a graphic designer make the final adjustments.

Here's to a couple hundred more sales!

P.S. I was just Treasured on Etsy!  So cool!

our Emma Long weekend

This weekend we headed over to Emma Long park to spend the weekend camping with Jared and Felisha and their family.  We had fun hanging out by the water, grilling yummy food, shooting nerf guns and exploring.

We had fun fishing, but didn't catch any fish this time.

Poor Kirby caught a fish hook to the nose.  She always tries to get the lure when we are fishing and this time she did!

Lauren enjoyed feeding Conner his baby food. It was so cute!  She brought him his sippy cup too and called him "baby". So sweet!

This morning as we hung out around the fading campfire, our sweet baby girl stepped back too far and sat in the ashes inside the fire pit.  Her bottom landed in cold ashes and she was fine until she put her hand behind her in the hot coals to stand up.  We quickly swooped her up, but not before she burned her hand and wrist.

We rushed her to the ER and they quickly treated her 2nd degree burn on her wrist.  She has been quite the trooper and is handing it so well.  We are praying for a speedy recovery for our baby girl!

my piggy Morgan

16 and a half years ago I made the long drive from San Marcos to north of Georgetown to go see some four week old pot-bellied pigs.  The minute I saw the tiny, pink piglets, I knew I had to take one home.  She was so tiny I could hold her in one hand and had to feed her out of a bottle.

Morgan lived inside with me for 4 years while I was in college.  She went to the door and oinked when she needed to go to the bathroom and was pretty much like a dog.  She had a bed in my closet that she would bury herself in under a comforter.  Most of the time, all you could see was her piggy snout sticking out. I really got a kick out of not telling people about her and surprising them when they saw her.  In this picture, I found her hiding in a pile of laundry.

I must admit that she used to sleep in bed with me too.  I would come home from work and she would be snuggled under my bed covers.  She was the best foot warmer ever.

Morgan was still small enough to pick up when I went home for Christmas my sophomore year of college.  One day all my family was gone and Morgan and I were home alone.  All of the sudden, I saw my parents' very decorated Christmas tree falling over.  Morgan had gone under the tree and tipped it over.  I stood there holding up the tree for 30 minutes so the ornaments wouldn't fall off until my parents came home.  Good times.

She was sneaky, smart pig.  One time I saw Morgan sneaking from my roommate's room and running back to my room.  I knew she was up to no good the moment I saw her.  Sure enough, Morgan had found a candy bar in her purse and was hiding in her bed eating it.

Morgan still lived inside with me when Eric and I first started dating.  When I moved to Austin after I graduated, I moved into an apartment that did not accept pot-bellied pigs.  Morgan moved to the Valley to live with my parents in their backyard for a year.  It was a big adjustment for her, but she loved their backyard full of all-she-could-eat acorns.  She went from weighing about 75 pounds to 125 and could barely walk.  When my lease was up, I moved into a house and got my piggy back.  From then on, she was strictly an outside pig.  She had always been territorial and tried to bite people she didn't know and she seemed to like living outside in her own little pigloo just fine.

When we moved into our house, Eric built a fence so Morgan would have her own little space to live in.  She was comfortable in her little "pig area" and liked being in charge so she could relax under the rose bush or push around her bowling ball without Kirby chasing her around.

The kids loved looking at the pig, but were a little scared of her since she would sometimes try to bite them.  Morgan was territorial and only liked a handful of people... me, my parents and sometimes Eric. Even though Eric called her "my baggage", he took good care of her and grew to like her over the years.

Today my sixteen and a half year old pig is gone. It was her time.  I will always remember my Morgy and her sweet "huff huff" sound she made only for me.

We will miss you Morgan!

oh duck!

Today we had a special delivery from Erica...

an incubator and four duck eggs!

The incubator is a little different that the first one I used back in June when we hatched two bantys, one chicken and two guineas.  This incubator will auto-rotate the eggs for me so I don't have to turn them over three times a day. Sweet!

Hopefully in 28 days, four little ducklings will hatch!  If you have never seen a hatch, check out this one from last June. The kids and I are very excited to have eggs back in the house!

I spy with my little eye...

I started working on our I Spy quilt this week.  I have about 130 novelty prints that will alternate with white squares to create a big quilt.  The kids love looking at the fabrics as I'm sewing it together.

I think it will be really fun to play the I Spy game once it's finished and hopefully it will be big enough for our family to use outside as a giant picnic blanket.  I can't wait until I finish it!

another basketball game

Ethan had a basketball game early Saturday morning.  He is really enjoying basketball and looks forward to it every week.

Ethan's favorite part of basketball is defense.  This game he had to cover his buddy from soccer last season.

He takes his position very seriously.I'm not sure his friend appreciated it though.

The bench warmers

I signed the boys up to play sports this spring.  Austin chose soccer and Ethan wants to play T-ball for the first time.  They are very excited!  We will soon get to see how busy our Saturdays will be for the next 15 years!

Snow day!

Friday morning we woke up to snow! Ethan's school was cancelled, so we had our first official snow day.  The kids were so excited!

Lauren loved eating the snow.

Ethan could have stayed outside and played in it all day.
Austin drew pictures, made snow angels and threw snowballs at us.
Even Kirby got in on the fun!  We had so much fun on our snow day and the kids are hoping it snows again soon.
